A quick tutorial for 2 Easy DIY Garlands for Valentine’s Day. I like the delicate and simple look of these garlands and how they remind me of this affectionate holiday when I see them displayed. First, I’ve created a minimal Pom-Pom and Pink Heart Garland. Then, a Red Heart Doily Garland.
Both of the garlands are easy (almost too easy) to make, inexpensive, and add a whisper of sweetness to your home decor.
Pom-poms and paper hearts, what’s not to love?
And the doilies have an air of romance to them, so lacey!

Pom-Pom & Pink Heart Garland
supplies for pom-pom & pink heart garland
- Felt pom-poms (red, pink, white, or mixed)
- Paper heart cut-outs
- String
- Upholstery needle
- Small hole puncher
Felt pom-poms can be purchased here. These are 3 cm in diameter and come with a mixture of hot pink, pink, red, and white. They also come with string and needles.
However, I prefer to use a long upholstery needle. They are long enough and strong enough to puncture the felt balls. I had some of these needles already. They are a great purchase since I’ve used them for many projects.
You may use any string and use what you already have around the house. I used white string, although there are many decorative strings out there!
I purchased pink cut-out hearts from Michaels. They were already punched in one of the tops of the heart. I used a small craft hole puncher and mirrored the hole on the other side. However, use cut-out hearts from cardstock or other paper that you may already have!
Making the pom-pom garland
Determine how long you would like your garland. Measure and cut a piece of string. Tie a loop at one end of the string and attach the needle at the other end.
Arrange the pom-poms and hearts in the pattern you want to achieve. I played around with different color combinations and decided on the design below.
Thread the pom-poms onto the string and pull through to the end with the loop.
Determine how much space you would like between the poms and the hearts. Thread the hearts onto the sting.
Once all the pom-poms and hearts are threaded, untie the needle from the string and tie another loop at the end.
hang & display garland
I love how the garland turned out! I wanted a minimal look, not too overpowered with hearts. It added just the right touch on my mantel for Valentine’s Day.
To hang the garland, I used command hooks. These hooks are so handy and I don’t have to worry about damaging any paint!
Red Heart Doily Garland
I don’t think this garland could be any easier! Like, taking it back to kindergarten or grade school easy.
So basic, yet dainty and beautiful. The lacey doilies provide a romantic feel. I had leftover red pom-poms, so I decided to add a few to this garland as well!
I displayed the garland in our Master Bedroom, on the headboard and on a mirror.

MAKING THE red heart doily GARLAND
Making this garland is so easy!
Measure and cut the string. Attach string to needle and tie a loop at the opposite end. Determine the pattern of the doilies and pom-poms, if using.
Thread the doilies and pom-poms through the string. Since the doilies are delicate, be careful when threading, as the paper could tear.
Remove the needle and tie a loop at the end.
And there you have it, a lovely heart doily garland!
I opted to display them in our master bedroom. Lacey and delicate, they add a hint of romance!
Aren’t these 2 Easy DIY Garlands for Valentine’s Day so sweet? I love the simplicity and daintiness. They’re easy, inexpensive, and add just a touch of sweetness. Sprinkle these lovely garlands throughout your home for Valentine’s Day.
