I’ve found myself being a wee bit addicted to thrifting lately. Especially when it comes to shopping with thredUP, an online thrift and consignment store. I wanted a few new items for spring & decided to revisit thredUP.
Do you want to update your wardrobe and be thrifty while doing so? If so, thredUP could be worth a try! Keep reading for my review of buying clothes on thredUP.
What I like about thredup:
- Convenience. Online thrift shopping? Um, yes, please!
- Many of my preferred brands are available to shop in one place. It’s easy to filter and save your sizes and favorite brands. Handy!
- I’m able to track what I’m saving to my favorites. It’s helpful to check back and monitor what items are still available, what items are sold, and what items are in someone’s cart. Also, I’ll be notified if an item drops in price.
- The item description will include if it is in excellent condition, new with tags, slight wear & tear, minor fraying, etc. This is so helpful in determining if I want to purchase the item or not.
- I appreciate the cute packaging. The order will arrive nicely wrapped in blue polka-dot tissue paper and either in a blue polka-dot box or envelope. Even though you’re thrifting, your order will arrive feeling as though it is new.
- The clothing appears clean and accurate to the listed condition. I did not experience any funky odors or misleading descriptions of the item conditions. However, they have not been washed. So, I was sure to wash and dry them at a hot temperature to avoid any problems. I have a steam and sanitize option on my washer and dryer, which is helpful to use for thrifted items.
- I love redeeming any points I’ve earned on future purchases. Cha-ching, saving money makes me happy!
what I dislike about thredup:
- I’m not able to try on the clothes or examine them for quality, Of course, that’s true of most online shopping. It seems just a little riskier when the items are second-hand. However, they do have a return policy, so returns are always an option. Keep in mind, all returned items are subject to a $1.99 restocking fee and the original shipping charge is not refunded.
- Free shipping applies only on orders over $79. This can be a bummer if you only want to purchase an item or a few items. Since you’re thrifting, your dollar can be stretched further and you may find yourself buying just to get the free shipping. However, all orders in the US ship at a flat rate of $5.99. So, not too bad. Also, The Buy and Bundle option is an alternative that helps you qualify for free shipping.
- The prices are higher than what you’d find at your local thrift store, say, Goodwill.
- Items purchased with minor wear seemed to be most noticeable on the shoes. I feel like this can be expected with shoes, but one pair was slightly more worn than I thought the description and picture led me to believe.
- I didn’t experience any funky odors, other than some items seemed to smell heavily laundered or perfumed. Definitely wash your clothes when they arrive!

Do I Recommend thredUP for Buying Clothes?
Yes, I recommend thredUP for buying clothes. Overall, I’ve had good experiences. There is so much variety and items that are in excellent or new condition. Sometimes the prices are slightly higher than I would expect. Other times, I feel like I’m getting a screaming deal! I love the points that I earn to use as credit on future purchases!
thredUP is a fun shopping experience. I’m pleased with the majority of the clothes and shoes I purchased and find myself reaching for them consistently.
