The Custom Home Office Design | Shelves & Window Bench Project was the first project we completed at our Tennessee home. The built-in window bench had two file drawers, which were perfect for hiding paperwork and files. The shelves and window bench with drawers added storage, yet also defined the room as our office. This custom home office design worked well for our home.
Below, you’ll see the Custom Home Office Design | Shelves & Window Bench Project, constructed by my talented husband. And, to gush a little bit, he is brilliant at bringing our design visions to life! Because he is a skilled craftsman, we were also able to save money.
Even though we downsized our book collection through several moves, we still had a lot of books! We also had photo boxes, framed pictures, and decor items that needed somewhere to go. We needed the extra space before we could unpack and get settled!
The Rough “Before”
Our office was an upstairs bedroom. We chose this particular bedroom for our office because of the large window and also thought we could configure the shelves appropriately in the space. We decided that shelves on either side of the window, with a bench below the window, would work well and look great in the space.
The After
On the negative side, we don’t have any pictures of this project during the construction process. This was the first project my husband constructed in this home and we didn’t take nearly as many pictures as I would have liked. (Well, not any!) We were so focused on getting it done and moving in! For this reason, we don’t have any pictures of the construction process. (We learned our lesson. Take more pictures of the “before”!)
On the positive side, my husband did a marvelous job constructing the office shelves and window bench! And, we have some pictures below! He made custom shelves, end-panels, a window bench with file drawers, and added crown molding.
The shelves, bench, and crown mold was painted with Sherwin Williams, SW 7008 Alabaster, semi-gloss. This was the same paint used on all the trim throughout our house.
And, the finished office! Love, love, love it!
This office is such a wonderful space! All due to the custom home office design. With the added shelves, window bench with file drawers, and crown molding, it was a huge success.
The Custom Home Office Design | Shelves & Window Bench Project added so much storage to this room. I loved the incorporation of the file drawers in the window bench. I could hide all my messy paperwork! And with all the shelving, there was plenty of space to display books and whatnot!
Once again, my talented husband did such a wonderful job!
